I didn’t exactly set out to build a website.
I was looking for a better place to put some of the things I write, research and think about.
Then one thing led to another.
Which, if you know me—or have spent much time around here—is probably not terribly surprising.
Somewhere along the way, what started as a place to publish an article or two turned into BobbyBama.com.
And I think I like what it has become.
So, What Is This Place?
The short answer is that it’s where I put things I think are worth sharing.
Some of them are serious.
Some aren’t.
Some are things I know something about because I’ve lived them or worked around them. Others are subjects I became curious about and decided to look into.
I’m an Army brat, former law enforcement officer, current business owner, husband, father, grandfather and preparedness guy.
I’ve worn a few other hats over the years too.
None of that makes me an expert on everything I write about.
It does mean I’ve accumulated a few experiences, quite a few opinions, and apparently an inability to leave an interesting question alone.
That’s mostly what you’ll find here.
Articles
When I think something deserves more than a quick opinion, this is where I slow down and try to make sense of it.
I research it. I look for evidence. I try to separate what we know from what we think we know. And when the subject calls for it, I provide the sources so you can look at them yourself.
Sometimes the subject will be preparedness.
Sometimes current events.
Sometimes technology, security, culture or something else entirely.
I’m not particularly interested in pretending every subject fits neatly into one category.
One Thing Led to Another — Blog
The Blog is different.
It’s less formal and probably a little closer to how my mind actually works.
Observations. Experiences. Questions. Opinions. Things I got right. Things I got wrong. Things I’m still trying to figure out.
Sometimes I’ll start with one subject and wind up somewhere I didn’t expect.
Oh look, squirrel.
That is the reason for the name.
Across the Table — Podcast
Then there’s the podcast side of things.
Across the Table is intended to be exactly what the name suggests: a conversation.
Preparedness will certainly be part of it, but the idea is broader than that.
If something seems worth sitting down and talking about, it probably belongs across the table.
No podium required.
And Video
Video is exactly what it sounds like: recorded content, some live events, sometimes with guests and sometimes with no guests.
Not a Content Factory
One thing I don’t intend to do is manufacture something simply because the calendar says I’m supposed to publish.
There may be stretches of multiple content releases and then some quiet ones. That’s okay.
My thought is that I would rather put something here because I thought it was worth your time than because Tuesday showed up again.
When I find or think of something I believe is worth talking about, researching, writing about or asking questions about, I will do that.
And if there isn’t, I will leave everyone alone for a little while. I hope that will help ensure quality content, regardless of whether it’s an article, blog post or video.
Why BobbyBama.com?
Mostly because all these different things needed a home.
Now they have one.
Articles, the blog, Across the Table and video can all live here without pretending they’re the same thing.
It gives me a place where I can follow an interesting question wherever it happens to lead, and that feels right to me.
To be clear, I’m not here because I’ve got everything figured out. Far from it. I’m here to question, explore, investigate and try to make sense of some of the things we’ll talk about.
I’m here because I still enjoy learning and asking questions. I still occasionally discover that something I was absolutely certain about deserves another look. Interestingly enough, sometimes that causes me to change my mind.
I have found that every now and again, I stumble across something interesting enough that I think somebody else might enjoy coming along for the ride.
